What is ‘Before the Bell’?

 

CER is proud to support Before the Bell, a social impact initiative led by Affinity Workforce. The campaign provides free school breakfasts to pupils in some of the UK’s most disadvantaged areas, helping them start the day with the energy and focus needed to learn.

 

At its heart, Before the Bell is built on one belief: no child should be too hungry to learn.

 

This initiative goes beyond recruitment, it reflects Affinity Workforce’s commitment to supporting local communities. At CER, we’re proud to help raise awareness and promote this important campaign across the schools we work with every day.

Why is ‘Before the Bell’ Important?

 

Food insecurity is a growing concern across the UK. According to the Family Resources Survey (2023–2024):

 

  • Around 1 in 10 households face food insecurity
  • Families with children are twice as likely to rely on food banks
  • 90% of households experiencing very low food security did not access a food bank in the past month

 

These figures highlight a critical issue that many children arrive at school hungry, which can significantly impact their ability to concentrate and engage in learning.

 

By supporting Affinity Workforce’s Before the Bell initiative, CER is helping ensure more pupils have access to a nutritious breakfast and giving them the best possible start to their school day.
