World Mental Health Day

Teaching is incredibly rewarding, but we often don’t talk about how it can also be challenging.

Between managing busy classrooms, supporting students, and balancing responsibilities in and outside of work, it’s important to remind ourselves, our teams, and the wider education community that mental health matters.

By keeping the conversation open, we can help ensure teachers, teaching assistants, and support staff feel supported.

To mark World Mental Health Day, we’re answering some common questions asked about mental health support for teachers across the UK.

How can I tell if work is affecting my well-being?

Common signs include:

  • Difficulty switching off from work
  • Increased stress or anxiety

  • Take part in a physical activity
  • Making time for family, friends and hobbies
  • Asking for support early when challenges arise

It’s also important to celebrate your successes. Teaching staff make a lasting difference every day, and recognising those achievements can have a positive impact on wellbeing.
