Are you a dedicated and compassionate individual fluent in Slovak and/or Romani, with a strong background in UK education settings? We are seeking a Roma Slovak Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming and inclusive primary school in Sheffield (S4), supporting pupils from Roma backgrounds to thrive academically and socially.

This is a full-time role starting immediately, ideal for someone who is passionate about inclusive education and has the skills to support pupils with English as an Additional Language (EAL).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide tailored support to pupils from Roma Slovak backgrounds, helping them access the curriculum and integrate confidently into school life.
  • Work closely with class teachers and the SENCO to deliver targeted interventions and language support.
  • Assist with classroom activities, small group work, and one-to-one support.
  • Foster strong relationships with pupils, parents, and the wider school community.
  • Support pupils’ emotional wellbeing and cultural identity within the school environment.
  • Help bridge communication between school staff and Roma families, promoting engagement and trust.

Essential Requirements:

  • Fluency in Slovak and/or Romani (spoken and written).
  • Previous experience working in a UK school setting (primary or secondary).
  • Understanding of the educational and cultural needs of Roma pupils.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

Desirable:

  • Experience supporting pupils with EAL or SEN.
  • Knowledge of local Roma communities and cultural practices.
  • Relevant qualifications (e.g., Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant Certificate).
