Learning Support Assistant (LSA) – Behavioural Unit
Location: Gateshead
Pay Rate: £100 – £125 per day (depending on experience)
Contract: Full-Time, Term Time Only
We are currently seeking an experienced and dedicated Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to join a specialist behavioural provision in Gateshead. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with previous experience supporting children and young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, behavioural challenges, or additional learning needs.
The successful candidate will play a vital role in supporting pupils both on a 1:1 basis and within the classroom environment, helping them to engage positively with learning and achieve their individual goals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide targeted 1:1 support for pupils with behavioural and emotional needs.
- Support teaching and learning across the classroom.
- Build positive and professional relationships with pupils, promoting engagement and progress.
- Implement behaviour management strategies in line with school policies.
- Assist with emotional regulation and social development.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs and other support staff to meet individual pupil needs.
- Maintain accurate records and contribute to pupil reviews where required.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
- Previous experience working as an LSA, Teaching Assistant, Behaviour Support Worker, Youth Worker, or in a similar role.
- Experience supporting children or young people with SEMH needs, challenging behaviour, ASD, ADHD, or other additional needs.
- Strong behaviour management skills and a calm, resilient approach.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities.
- A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable learners and helping them succeed.
