Engineering Lecturer

We are currently recruiting for an Engineering Lecturer to deliver engaging, industry‑relevant teaching within a Post‑16 environment. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a practical learning setting and wants to make a real impact on young people’s career development.

Key Responsibilities

Teaching & Learning

  • To teach and assess on a range of Construction courses from level 1 to Level 3. This role includes course/group co-ordination.
  • Teach Construction programmes but may be required to teach on any other course offered by the College for which the post holder is appropriately qualified.
  • Develop course materials, schemes of work, group profiles etc. as required and make these available prior to course starting dates and are made available through the colleges Sharepoint system.
  • Deliver academic tutorials to provide students with feedback on progress and formative guidance on how to improve performance to assure success.
  • Ensure Information Learning Technology (ILT) is a driving force to create an efficient and effective working and learning environment.
  • Plan and deliver engaging lessons that stretch and challenge learners across mixed abilities.
  • Embed within all learning activities the opportunity to improve students English and Maths.
  • Deliver both theory and practical sessions in line with awarding body requirements and curriculum standards.

Learner Support

  • Provide 1:1 academic and pastoral support to help learners overcome barriers and remain on programme.
  • Work proactively with external partners, employers, and training providers to support learner progression into apprenticeships, higher education, or employment.
  • Promote employability skills relevant to engineering roles, including problem‑solving, teamwork, and workplace expectations.
  • Act as a positive role model and advocate for engineering career pathways.

Quality & Compliance

  • Maintain accurate records including attendance, progress tracking, and assessment feedback.
  • Ensure all teaching materials, schemes of work, and lesson plans meet internal and external quality standards.
  • Follow organisational safeguarding policies, health and safety procedures, and equality and diversity standards.
  • Contribute to course development, curriculum planning, and continuous improvement activities.
  • Attend training, meetings, and development sessions as required.

Person Specification

Essential Skills & Qualifications

  • Level 4 qualification in Construction or equivalent.
  • Teaching or training experience in ICT.
  • Teaching qualification.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in industrial or public sectors (Desirable)
  • Holds a D32/D33 or A1 assessor award or equivalent (Desirable)
  • Hold a D34 or V1 IQA award (Desirable)

Knowledge & Understanding

  • Strong understanding of curriculum requirements for Engineering at Post‑16 level.
  • Awareness of safeguarding, welfare, and health & safety principles in practical workshops.
  • Understanding of barriers faced by young learners or returners to education.
  • Familiarity with awarding body standards and assessment processes.
