Are you a patient, empathetic, and resilient individual with a passion for supporting children with additional needs? We are seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to work 1:1 with a primary-aged child with a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in a nurturing and inclusive school in Rotherham (S65).

This is a full-time role, offering the opportunity to make a profound difference in a child’s educational journey, supporting their academic, emotional, and social development on a daily basis.

The Role:

  • Provide consistent, structured 1:1 support throughout the school day, including in-class assistance, break/lunch supervision, and transitions between activities.
  • Implement strategies outlined in the child’s Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), working closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and external professionals.
  • Use a range of communication and regulation strategies tailored to the child’s needs, including visual timetables, sensory breaks, and positive behaviour support.
  • Support the child in developing independence, emotional regulation, and social interaction skills.
  • Maintain detailed records of progress, incidents, and interventions, contributing to regular review meetings and planning sessions.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • A Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent).
  • Proven experience working with children with autism and/or ADHD, ideally in a school setting.
  • A calm, consistent, and nurturing approach, with the ability to build trust and rapport.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with staff, parents, and external agencies.
  • A good understanding of safeguarding, child development, and inclusive education practices.
  • Flexibility, creativity, and a proactive attitude to problem-solving and adapting to the child’s evolving needs.

What the School Offers:

  • A supportive and experienced SEN team and leadership who prioritise staff wellbeing and development.
  • Access to regular CPD, including autism and behaviour training.
  • A welcoming and inclusive school culture where every child is valued and supported.
  • A clear pathway to a permanent position following a successful induction period.
  • Opportunities to contribute meaningfully to a child’s growth, confidence, and success.

This is more than just a job – it’s a chance to be a consistent, positive presence in a child’s life.
If you are passionate about SEN and ready to make a real impact, we would love to hear from you.
