Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teaching Assistant – 1:1 Support

Are you a patient, empathetic, and resilient individual with a passion for supporting children with additional needs? We are seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to work 1:1 with a primary-aged child with a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in a nurturing and inclusive school in Rotherham (S65).
This is a full-time role, offering the opportunity to make a profound difference in a child’s educational journey, supporting their academic, emotional, and social development on a daily basis.
The Role:
- Provide consistent, structured 1:1 support throughout the school day, including in-class assistance, break/lunch supervision, and transitions between activities.
- Implement strategies outlined in the child’s Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), working closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and external professionals.
- Use a range of communication and regulation strategies tailored to the child’s needs, including visual timetables, sensory breaks, and positive behaviour support.
- Support the child in developing independence, emotional regulation, and social interaction skills.
- Maintain detailed records of progress, incidents, and interventions, contributing to regular review meetings and planning sessions.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
- A Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent).
- Proven experience working with children with autism and/or ADHD, ideally in a school setting.
- A calm, consistent, and nurturing approach, with the ability to build trust and rapport.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with staff, parents, and external agencies.
- A good understanding of safeguarding, child development, and inclusive education practices.
- Flexibility, creativity, and a proactive attitude to problem-solving and adapting to the child’s evolving needs.
