An ECT is a newly qualified teacher completing a 2-year induction under DfE guidance (ECT replaced the term NQT in 2021).
The ECT induction period is a two-year support and development programme for newly qualified teachers in England. It helps ECTs build confidence and meet the Teachers’ Standards through mentoring, training, and regular reviews.
