CER Education is recruiting a Sports Coach to work as a Teaching Assistant in one of our partner SEN schools in Durham.

The school is an alternative provision for students with special educational needs (SEN), including Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH).

What the role involves:

  • Provide individualised support to students, mainly between the ages of 11 and 19 years old, with SEMH, ASD or ADHD
  • Work closely with the class teacher to deliver tailored interventions and support strategies
  • Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment, encouraging student engagement and confidence
  • Assist with the implementation of Individual Education Healthcare Plans (EHCPs)
  • Support students in both academic and social development, helping them to build essential life skills
  • Provide pastoral care and emotional support, ensuring students feel safe and valued
  • Support the class teacher with managing behaviour within the classroom
  • Supporting on school trips, outreach days and life skills lessons

Who we’re looking for:

This role is open to current students, graduates and experienced coaches alike – there’s no single route in.

  • A Level 2 or Level 3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools is not essential, but candidates with these qualifications are strongly encouraged to apply

Why this is a great opportunity:

  • Use your sports coaching background to make a real difference to young people with additional needs
  • Gain valuable experience across a specialist SEN setting
  • Term-time only role offering a great work-life balance
  • Build experience that supports a future career in education, coaching or youth work
