Health and Wellbeing Officer (6-8 weeks)

Secondary School Setting – Barnsley

We are seeking a Health and Wellbeing Officer to join our secondary school on a temporary basis for 6-8 weeks, providing essential medical and wellbeing support to our students and staff.

This is a key frontline role within the school, supporting pupils’ physical wellbeing and ensuring appropriate care, safeguarding, and record keeping.

Key Responsibilities

  • Providing first aid to students and staff in line with school policies
  • Administering medication safely and accurately, maintaining clear records
  • Assessing students who are unwell and making informed decisions about whether they can remain in school or need to be sent home
  • Liaising with parents/carers regarding student health concerns
  • Maintaining accurate medical logs, accident reports, and care plans
  • Supporting risk assessments and health-related documentation
  • Ensuring the medical room is well-organised, stocked, and compliant
  • Undertaking general administrative duties related to student health and wellbeing

Essential Requirements

  • Valid First Aid qualification (at Work or equivalent)
  • Medication administration training
  • Experience working in a school, healthcare, or child-focused setting
  • Confidence in making professional judgements regarding student wellbeing
  • Strong organisational and record-keeping skills
  • Calm, empathetic, and professional manner
  • Clear understanding of safeguarding and confidentiality
