1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant Position at Sheffield S5

Are you passionate about supporting students with special educational needs (SEN)? CER are seeking a dedicated and compassionate 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant to join our team at a school in Sheffield S5. This position will start in September 2024.

Job Description: 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant As a 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant, your primary role will be to provide personalized support to a specific pupil with behavioural issues and moderate learning difficulties (MLD). Here are the key responsibilities:

  1. Individualised Support:
    • Work closely with the assigned pupil, understanding their unique needs and challenges.
    • Implement planned learning activities and teaching programs tailored to the pupil’s requirements.
    • Adjust activities based on the pupil’s responses and progress.
    • Participate in planning and evaluating learning activities with the teacher, providing feedback on pupil progress and behaviour.
  2. Behaviour Management:
    • Consistently implement agreed-upon behaviour management strategies.
    • Foster a positive and supportive relationship with the pupil.
    • Encourage the pupil’s confidence and independence.
    • Provide feedback to reinforce and sustain the pupil’s efforts.
  3. Academic Support:
    • Assist the pupil in understanding instructions and schoolwork using techniques that work for them.
    • Arrange and provide resources for lessons and activities under the teacher’s direction.
    • Monitor, assess, and record the pupil’s progress.
    • Support independent learning and inclusion.
  4. Emotional Well-Being:
    • Support the pupil’s social and emotional well-being.
    • Report any concerns or problems to the teacher promptly.
    • Understand and apply positive handling techniques when necessary.
  5. Collaboration:
    • Share relevant information about the pupil with other staff, parents/carers, and external agencies as needed.
    • Collaborate with the SENCO and other professionals to contribute to individual education plans (IEPs).
  6. Personal Care:
    • Attend to the pupil’s personal needs, including toileting, hygiene, dressing, and eating.
    • Provide additional nurture when requested by the teacher or SENCO.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Experience working with children with SEN.
  • Understanding of behaviour management techniques.
  • Compassion, patience, and adaptability.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection policies.
