SEMH Teaching Assistant
Location: Rotherham Alternate Provision (secondary age students)
Contract: Full-Time, Long-Term
Start Date: ASAP
Salary: £83.33 – £100.00 per day

Are you a compassionate and dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant with a passion for supporting young people with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs? We are looking for someone like you to join an Alternative Provision site in Rotherham, working with secondary-age students on a full-time, long-term basis.

This is a worthwhile opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of students who need tailored support to succeed academically, socially, and emotionally.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide one-to-one and small group support to students with SEMH needs
• Build positive relationships to help students develop confidence, resilience, and self-regulation
• Assist the class teacher in delivering tailored lessons and activities that meet the needs of the students
• Manage challenging behaviour effectively and in line with the school’s behaviour policy
• Help create a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment
• Collaborate with the wider school team, including SEN staff and external agencies, to support individual learning plans

Requirements:

• Experience working with students with SEMH needs, preferably in an alternative provision setting
• Strong behaviour management skills and the ability to build rapport with challenging students
• A patient, empathetic, and resilient approach to working with young people
• Teaching Assistant qualifications or equivalent are desirable but not essential
• A genuine desire to make a positive impact in students’ lives
