Head of Department – History | Croydon | £190 to £255 per day
CER are recruiting a Head of History Department for a large Academy Trust with a school in the Croydon area. The role is to start ASAP and to continue in September. The school has been rated Good by Ofsted, quoting ”Leaders have an ambitious vision for the school. Their energy and commitment are focused on ensuring that all pupils achieve the highest possible outcomes”.
Their curriculum is designed to challenge and inspire, encouraging students to think like historians, examining evidence, interpreting perspectives, and understanding how the past shapes the present.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
- A deep passion for History and the ability to inspire this in both staff and students.
- Excellent subject knowledge and a proven track record of strong teaching at KS4 (and ideally KS5).
- Experience of curriculum development and an understanding of how to build knowledge and skills over time.
- High expectations of pupil behaviour and commitment to inclusive, high-quality education.
- Strong leadership and communication skills, with the drive to support and develop others.
Responsibilities:
- To plan curriculum provision and enrichment for specified year groups within the subject
- To model excellent teaching practice in terms of planning and preparation, teaching and assessment
- To be accountable for pupil progress in teaching classes and department, ensuring that every pupil achieves results in line with, or better than, national expectations
- To track pupil progress and make intelligent use of data to identify underperformance, plan appropriate support and achieve excellent outcomes for our pupils, ensuring that all pupils achieve at chronological age level
- To predict pupil outcomes as required
- To keep up to date with any changes in learning and teaching related to History, including DfE guidance and curriculum changes and ensure staff are kept informed
